Dr Ghattas Khoury is a specialist in General and Vascular surgery. He received training at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and at several hospitals in London, England.
Dr. Khoury is credited with introducing Laparoscopic Surgery to Lebanon as early as 1992. He established the Laparoscopic Lab at the American University of Beirut (AUB) where he served as its Director from 1996 until 2000. He has also been a pioneer in the field of Morbid Obesity procedures in the Middle East as he has successfully helped hundreds of patients overcome obesity through novel surgical procedures.
During his long career as a General, Laparoscopic and Vascular Surgeon, Dr. Khoury was elected as a member of the Executive Council of the Lebanese Order of Physicians from 1990 - 1994 and as President of the Scientific Committee of the Lebanese Order of Physicians in 1993.
Afterwards, he was elected as President of the Lebanese Order of Physician from 1998 until 2001 for which he received the Lebanese Presidential Merit Award in 2001 in recognition of his service.
Additionally, Dr. Khoury was nominated as an International Guest Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1992 and he became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1993. In 2000, he was selected to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Further, Dr. Khoury has also been dedicated to public service, whereby he was elected to the Lebanese Parliament in 2000 where he served until 2005. During his term, he was as an active member of the Parliamentary Committee for Public Health and Social Affairs.
Dr. Khoury is also an established medical academic as he has published 46 Articles in various medical journals, many of which are recognized as original contributions to the field of Laparoscopic Surgery.
