The art of pewter…
No, it’s not a funny word. It’s art. And Latifa Tary is an expert in the matter.
An artist by formation, Latifa’s artisanat debut began as a hobby. After working on several private projects in the Gulf, Latifa turned her hobby into her full time job by launching her workshop in 2002. She later started the Latifa Art brand, famous for turning simple pewter into works of art.
“Our philosophy is to make our home a warmer place to be. The concept behind our line is to bring the tradition of pewter to life and make the customers familiar with this product. That’s why we do our best to keep the designs modern” explains Latifa.
Pewter, mainly used for tableware in the Middle Ages, was slowly substituted by porcelain and glass later in time but remained one of the artists’ favorite material due to its particular suitability for handwork. Pewter is now mainly used to produce artifacts and decorative or specialty items.
Latifa and her team produce handmade home and office accessories, lighting, personal gifts and souvenirs from napkin rings to mirrors, jewelry boxes to intricately designed frames. Every item can be personalized on demand and the style is a mix of traditional and modern and also combines different other material along with the pewter including wood, glass, plexi glass, and sometimes even painting.
When asked about her inspirations, Latifa revealed: “Beauty is my inspiration; history is my inspiration. Everything that catches my eyes can be an inspiration”.
And sure enough, her inspirations allow for a handmade creation to adorn every room in one’s house.
